In 1983, the US oil company Texaco came up with the idea of approaching Erding, some 38 km from Munich, to drill a “small” hole 2,350 meters deep in the belief that they would find oil… but they did not.
Although the gringos left empty-handed, their find gave Bavaria one more of its many natural treasures. A treasure that would not take long to exploit.
We are talking about sulfur water.
This very special water would give rise to a first thermal complex which, over the years, would eventually become the largest water park and hot springs complex in Europe! All in one!
With its 185,000m² of usable area, visitors can enjoy all kinds of experiences, depending on what they are looking for: Pool bars and restaurants, grottos, waterfalls, water slides, saunas, beach, beach bar, volleyball courts, massages, health, fun….
The place is so impressively large and has so many options that it is best to be forewarned about what is there and prepare everything in advance.
The Erding Thermal Baths are a complex that combines all of the following
In the Erding Thermal Baths you can enjoy a very fun plan with children or friends, thanks to its complex of slides and large pools; but, on the other hand, it is also a place of rest and relaxation in which to disconnect from the bustling earthly world.
If you have a full day, you can enjoy the whole experience in one place! (we recommend at least four hours to make the most of the visit).
The different areas of the Erding Thermal Baths
It has five well-differentiated areas for any type of public, some of them with rules to be followed and restrictions on access:
Therme: For all audiences! The textile thermal area covers an area of 27,500 m² and is covered by a glass dome 56 m in diameter that opens in good weather. It is the largest area of the complex.
Pool bar, “grotto”, waterfall, neck showers, massages, sun loungers, various health and steam baths, children’s area and a restaurant. The thermal garden houses the outdoor swimming pool, as well as a sulfur spring, a sandy beach, a beach bar, a beach volleyball court and outdoor slides.
Every day there is a program of activities at the spa, such as water gymnastics.
Galaxy Erding: Fun in a tube, and never better said! 2,750 meters in length give way to 20 slides with “Family”, “Action” and “Extreme” categories. It also has the longest tube slide in Europe (8,360 meters), which even includes colored lights (it’s called the Magic Eye for a reason) and virtual reality. It is covered by a giant dome that opens in summer.
Wellenbad: The wave pool has five different wave levels up to a height of three meters, and is the main attraction of the resort. It is surrounded by 300 large palm trees, which receive daylight through the glass roof. A paradise.
Vital Oase: This area is open to visitors over 16 years of age.
It has an outdoor and an indoor pool with an integrated pool bar, Roman bath, steam bath, relaxation rooms, several saunas and a restaurant. In the outdoor area there is a healing sulfur spring and an Asian-style garden. The Vital Springs are pools containing minerals similar to those found in the Dead Sea.
By the way, its wooden sauna in the shape of a sphere, “Kugulus”, with a capacity of 40 people, is the largest in the world.
VitalTherme & Saunen: Access is restricted to children under 16 years of age. It has several restaurants and is where most of the saunas are located.
